IKEA - Semana del ahorro eficiente en el hogar

Ikea, Week of Home Efficiency & Savings

Why:

As a leader in sustainability Ikea brought responsible consumption closer to its customers in order to hold them jointly responsible for the environment.

What:

The Semana del ahorro eficiente en el hogar  (Week of Home Efficiency & Savings), is a concept that allowed Ikea Family members to participate in workshops with the purpose of building a more sustainable future in a fun and entertaining way.

This week was held simultaneously in stores from Alcorcón and Coruña, from 19th to 25th of November 2012

How:

Coordination of workshops interaction between associations specialized in sustainability, recycling and responsible consumption and Ikea Family members.

- Basurama was the organization responsible for coordinating 'Basuramita', where toys where created from scratch using everyday items, and 'Ajardínate' that showed how to create an innovative & sustainable furniture for our gardens.

- Impromadrid was responsible for  'Mini theatre' sessions,  that showed that being sustainable could be fun also by improvising

- The workshop  El arte de cocinar con sobras  (The art of cooking with leftovers) was given in Coruña by the School of Hospitality Alvaro Cunqueiro and in Alcorcón by Proyecto Comida Basura (Junk Food Project). Both presented delicious recipes that allowed people not to get rid of what was earlier cooked in excess.

In addition, a gymkhana tested the participants' knowledge about the benefits of being sustainable. Participants could found the answers in different parts of the store.
